Please join the Freedom Area Citizens' Council (FACC) tonight when we welcome all three Carroll County Commissioners to Eldersburg for the first time in 2005. The Commissioners will be discussing the progress they anticipate making on the Freedom District priorities articulated by the FACC in a letter from FACC's President, Tom McCarron, dated December 17th.

The current Board of Commissioners has continued to exceed the expectations of the FACC board and has accomplished a great number of the FACC's priorities (received January of 2002) during their first two years of their terms. Some of these priorities included: making Route 26 the county's number one engineering and design priority, stopping the Piney Run water treatment plant in favor of expanding the Freedom plant at Liberty Reservoir and of course, enacting major growth legislation, as recommended by the Growth Task Force to address the need for adequate facilities in both planning and development. Faith has indeed been restored in our process of government, as citizens are now empowered to have a voice in the affairs of government and perhaps more importantly, have that voice listened to and acted upon by our elected leaders.

There have been numerous other achievements accomplished by this Board of Commissioners, also supported by FACC, but it was thought appropriate to focus the Commissioners during the next two years of their respective terms on a few major priorities exclusive to our area. The following is a brief overview of the Freedom District priorities given recently to the Board of Commissioners:

  • Infrastructure improvements--most notably the removal of the buildings at the corner of Routes 32 and 26 either through improvement of the intersection in coordination with the State Highway Administration or through enactment of legislation to specifically address this derelict ownership and similarly vacant improvements located within commercially zoned areas.
  • Water--completed development of the wells in Sykesville, accelerated expansion of the Liberty water plant and creation of a citizens water board to serve those utilizing public water.
  • Road improvements-inclusive of the support for the re-development of Liberty Road, its intersection with Route 32 and other improvements along Route 32 including signalization at Macbeth Way.
  • Economic Development-aggressive development of the Warfield and Springfield office complexes as the county's #1 spot for new high paying jobs.

On behalf of the Commissioners, we look forward to your attendance and to addressing any questions concerning these or other public concerns of the community. All FACC meetings are open to the public and are held the third Thursday of every month at the Freedom Christian Church in Carrolltowne Center at 7:30.
