Connector
Roads
Through
the efforts of the Freedom Area Citizens Council, Freedom residents
will have an opportunity to air their thoughts and to give vital
public input on an issue that threatens to divide our community.
That issue is connector roads, and FACC will present Commissioners
Dean Minnich and Perry Jones next Thursday, November 13th at 7:30
PM in the Freedom Christian Church at Carrolltowne Center in a
in a town-hall styled meeting that should provide all area a residents
a chance to weigh in. Our elected officials need to hear your
views.
As
many area residents know, connector roads that have long been
part of the master plan as a way to improve access and alleviate
some of the stress on our failing state roads and intersections
It is certainly understandable why some see connector roads as
a must. Citizens affected argue that although connector roads
may have been planned, the county's failure to properly manage
development of neighborhoods adjacent to and along planed connector
roads has created an unsafe and impractical solution.
Both
sides have important arguments, so a full understanding of your
concerns by the Commissioners is clearly in everyone's best interests.
All Freedom residents have a vested interest in better access
and traffic relief, but forcing existing plans without input from
the community would be pointless in our opinion. If there are
alternatives or options, we need to know what they are. We also
believe that citizens have a right to be heard, and we're grateful
that our Commissioners feel the same way.
The
FACC board has agreed to remain neutral, believing in this case
that it is our job to keep citizens informed and to provide a
public forum for their views. Please join us as we welcome Commissioners
Minnich and Jones to our Thursday, Nov. 13th FACC meeting. Do
not miss this vital opportunity to be heard, regardless of what
your thoughts and concerns are. All residents of the Freedom/Liberty/Sykesville
area are invited to attend. More information can be found on www.freedomareacitizens.org.
