Minutes of Meeting of the Board of The Freedom Area Citizens Council - January 18, 2007

Opening Activities:
The Board of Freedom Area Citizens' Council met on January 18, 2007 at the Carrolltown Center.

Board Meeting:

  1. Call to order
  2. Minutes
    Minutes from 11/16/06 meeting read and approved.
  3. Treasurer's report
    We have $1246 at this time. Harry will close out Sykesville account with Doug Metz when Doug is available and both can take the funds to Westminster. Regarding the bill for Century High School, Ross is to follow through with Dr. Ecker as per his conversation with Harry at the last meeting.
  4. Old Business
    Speakers for upcoming meetings-Dixon Harvey from Black Oak Associates to be at our meeting on a special date next month: 2/22/07. Meeting for 3/15/07 to be representatives from the Public Service Commission and BGE regarding rate increases and budgeting. Ideas for April meeting-Water Board (a Water Summit will be held at Winters Mill). Possibly get someone from the county and the Maryland Dept of the Environment. Ross to look into specific speakers.
    Membership renewal-Nicole to work on a hard-copy letter to be sent out. Dan and Ross to work on email letter.
  5. New Business
    Bobbi Moser-there is not yet a replacement for her position.
    Priorities letter-some saved from the 2006 letter. Water Board for Freedom Area added under infrastructure section.

General Meeting:SPEAKERS

Commissioner Mike Zimmer discussed the topic of taxes and that he was against raising taxes. However, he did state that he was interested in residents making voluntary donations to go toward schools and recreation. There was a presentation regarding the Carroll County Public Schools Education Foundation. Commissioner Zimmer has been attending Open Session in Annapolis once a week. He discussed the Rte. 29 US Highway Task Force.

Commissioner Julia Gouge discussed the County Guide and the Carroll County prescription card. Regarding water, there is a new plant being built in the Freedom area. She talked about the Pathways website which delineates how the County is planning for the future. There will be two more rounds of community meetings starting in March.
