FACC Press Release
June 23, 2002

The Freedom Area Citizens' Council (FACC), publisher of the Freedom Banner elected a new slate of officers for the 2002-2003 year. The following were elected by unanimous vote of the Board of Directors:

  • Ross Dangel; Chairman
  • Mike Naused; 1st Vice Chairman
  • Nimrod Davis; 2nd Vice Chairman
  • Cathy Dodson; Treasurer
  • Phil Bennett; Secretary

John Dozsa was also elected to the Board of Directors. In addition to those elected as officers, FACC's Board of Directors includes: Tom McCarron, Richard Nacewicz, Ken Plante, Dale Reid, Greg Tirado, Donna Slack, Mark Weber, John Culleton, Chris Dugan and Cathy Naused.

Incoming Chairman, Ross Dangel remarked, "FACC has a lot of momentum coming off an extraordinarily successful year. We've continued to grow our membership and have had a beneficial impact on some very important issues affecting the Freedom area. We organized the "Save the Lake" Rally, which brought nearly 2,000 people together in support of Piney Run. We have also mobilized public awareness of issues like the now infamous ZORC amendment, the proposed water and sewer master plan changes and attention to the lack of an emergency water emergency plan for Freedom.

Additionally, FACC continues to sponsor great works in the community like the formation of three scholarships for graduating seniors from Freedom area high schools and the naming of Prothero Road in Sykesville, in memory of Officer Prothero, who was killed in the line of duty last year. Several FACC members also participated in last year's Route 26 planning study and helped review the draft of the Freedom Area Comprehensive Plan.

"With an election coming up, it is more important than ever, for the citizens of S. Carroll to get informed about things that affect our community", said Dangel. "Voting can indeed make a difference, but only if we understand the issues and vote for folks who truly represent our interests." FACC plans to hold a candidate forum in the fall after the primaries. FACC membership is $10.00 per year and meetings are open to the public on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm in the Freedom Christian Church at Carrolltown Mall.
